If you need help with your marketing—and everyone does, including marketing agencies—there are many reasons it can be hard to commit to and then build a relationship with a marketing agency. Feeling out potential marketing agencies for collaboration, including their credentials, fit, and budget, is the topic of the enVisioning Success podcast episode, Aligning with Marketing Services: Like, Fit and Budget, co-hosted by Laura and Julia. In this companion blog, we look at four more tips on the next steps to building the right outsourced marketing partnership.
1. Treat the Relationship Like a Partnership
When you’re outsourcing, it’s a natural feeling to want to take an agency’s promises, give them money, and then ignore them. But just like set-it-and-forget-it marketing doesn’t work, neither does picking a marketing vendor over a marketing partnership.
2. Find Marketing Services, Not Products
In a similar vein, you need to look at marketing from the perspective of a service, not a product, and align with marketing agencies that view it the same way—assessing, applying, and changing marketing to suit needs, not a rigid template your needs have to fit to.
3. Get a Marketing Plan Done First
It can be tempting to just hit go on marketing, but without a marketing agency that understands your needs, marketing position, and customers, you may not have the right marketing partner. A marketing plan is essential: know what to look for in one.
4. Have Your Sales or Marketing Person as Point
Someone on your team needs to be your point person when working with your outsourced marketing agency. Ideally, it should be whoever manages marketing internally, but your sales team is also a great choice as they need to collaborate to provide the best lead generation.
